Shooting the Video 1

When choosing a day to do the Shooting of my I came across many problems. As Emily lives in Brighton I had to choose a day when she was free, I had the correct weather conditions, and a good sunset lighting.

I decided to do my filming on October 28th during the half term. I had Emily come down for a few days and then we waited for a day that looked right and started filming. The filming done on this day was just of Emily. It all went very smoothly and I found I took to the role of a directer very easily. Although Emily started off shy in front of the camera, with a bit of praise and motivation her confidence was boosted and she became very extroverted towards the camera.

Below are some shots taken during the day:

Cast

Emily Walker - She was the protagonist in my music video. I chose her as i feel she has the right look for the type of song, and her general fashion matches the themes. She was very hardworking and has a good connection with the camera that will hopefully draw in an audience. She plays herself as the artist through most of the video but also an 'Alice' character, from the film and storybook 'Alice in wonderland'.

Daisy Walker -  Daisy who plays the rabbit from Emily's other world  had the right face for this part, cute and innocent. She was very dedicated to her part offering ideas and tried very hard to follow my direction.

Murray Hibbard - Murray played the Mad Hatter character from the 'other world'. He was very open to costume ideas and allowed me to direct him.

Location

I think that when planning you music video the Location is very important. Its a place that needs to reflect your theme and show your ideas. After brainstorming many ideas I decided that i wanted to film most of my video outside, in a country park close to my home. By choosing this location i could get the autumn leaves that i wanted and a sunset lighting. Although because i wanted this type of lighting i needed to think about the timing of my shoot as i didn't want to lose light to quickly and not get enough filming done.

As well as filming outside i also used two rooms in my house for the scenes where my protagonist does most of her singing. I used various props to create a different look in each room but keeping an ongoing theme.

Copyright Letter

Although i wanted to use the song Rabbit Heart by florence and he machine for my music video, I had to send a letter to the artist asking permission to use the track. This is because without permission it could lead to the school and myself getting sued for copyright. Below is the letter i sent to the artist, followed by a screenshot the actual email:

Dear Florence and the Machine,

I am a A-level student currently studying Media Studies at the Leigh Technology Academy. For my practical film making project this year it is necessary for me to film and edit a music promotional video. As I enojoy listening to the music on your album i am writing to ask for your permission to use the track - Rabbit Heart (raiseit up), as the song in my video.

The use of the track would be for educational and exam purposes only and in no ay be used for commercial gain or profit.

I hope to here from you soon.

Yours sincrely

Storyboard

Here is a short Storyboard that I created to show my ideas in brief. To produce this storyboard I used the programme Celtx, which was simple to use and made my storyboard easy to understand.
Below i have numbered 1 - 12, so you can get a detailed description of what each box is trying to show.

1 - Close up of artist eye (direct to audience) start shut, then open.
2 - Aritst walking in and out of trees, spinning and laughing.
3 - My artist in different frames of the screen saying 'raise it up'
4-  My artist walking down the middle of tees torwards the camera
5 - My artist laying in leaves/flowers dancing and singing
6 - A room full of expensive looking items, her walking around like a rich women
7 - Back to artist walking through the trees towards camera
8 - I was unsure of what to put during this part of the song when planning, i didnt want to rush ideas, so i left this box blank, so i could develop on it later.
9 - Shot of people dancing in old fashioned clothes, as if it were her dream
10 - People with masks looking up at the camera, then pulling them away and having pale white faces.
11 - aritst spinning in a big dress, covered in gold jewlerry with bright spotlights just on her.
12 - artist in bath singing, then shot of her getting out, then shot of her feet and soaking dress walking along the floor in the woods.

My Lyrics

I think the lyrics of a song are very important. They show story ideas and the underlining meaning. The lyrics are the central point of a song and everything else is built around them. Below are the lyrics to my song and the red notes around are inital ideas on what i would like to show.
